Computational Intelligence for Dynamical Systems Laboratory

University of Delaware

We are interested in Scientific Computing and Machine Learning with applications to engineering, biology, and health

We look forward to working with self-motivated and proactive students!

We have 1 fully funded PhD position open in Spring/Fall 2027 with a focus on Physical AI. Students with a background in math, physics, and engineering are highly encouraged to apply for the PhD program in UD CIS. A background in numerical solution and analysis for differential equations or reinforcement learning is preferred.

Prospective students:

If you would like to join our group in any capacity, please fill out this form and then send me a short email note without any documents. In addition, if you want to join us as a PhD student, please also mention my name in your application (statement of purpose, personal statement).

My expectations for PhD students:

  • Drive the research forward. Rather than waiting for weekly meetings to receive tasks, identify problems, propose ideas, and suggest next steps.

  • Communicate proactively. If you encounter a blocker, let me know early instead of struggling silently for weeks. Likewise, share important progress, negative results, or new ideas as they arise.

  • Manage time effectively. Set short-term goals, track your progress, and work consistently without requiring repetitive supervision.

  • Be intellectually curious. Read beyond the assigned papers, explore related methods, and think critically about improving existing work.
